This Jam will run between:

In July, 2022, Crayta entered the season of Cybotanica. The season explores new life - both organic and artificial. The LIVING CITY Build Jam is where that exploration can really begin. This is a Build Jam so we are looking for packages and blueprints that can be used to create incredible experiences in Crayta.
That means we are not looking for games - just useful art and technical assets that could be used to build games and social experiences.
- Cybotanica brings organic and new life into cramped urban and suburban spaces, what do these new settlements look like and how do they function?
- How can NPCs be used to demonstrate the experience of life in a city?
- Cities - especially futuristic ones - are often represented by huge skyscrapers, but there may be entirely different ways to represent cities.
- Can we make building cities in Crayta faster or more procedural? Is there a way of seeing a city grow in front of our eyes?
- How can we represent a whole population? Think about their happiness, work, safety, friendships?
- What sort of tools and packages could be used to represent millions of people? Graphs? Icons? Heatmaps? UI?
If you are creating art-based packages, think about modular construction - or even procedural construction. Take time to make sure that the results of procedural systems are functional and useable for other creators.
What is Crayta?
Crayta is the game and world creation platform that anyone can use. It is a truly collaborative game creation platform built on Unreal Engine 4 - you and your friends can jump in and create games together in the cloud, regardless of your experience.

Living City Prizes
Overall 1st Place - $10,000
2nd Place - $8,000
3rd Place - $5,000
To win first place, the entry must be truly impressive and combine all of the key components - functionality, usability, creativity and documentation.
- Functionality - make sure that your package or blueprint actually works! Major bugs often prevent Jam entries from earning a prize,
- Usability - it should provide a useful tool or ability for creators and be intuitive and clear to use.
- Documentation - If your package is complicated, providing clear, comprehensive instructions is very important. Jam entries can often miss out on prizes if we simply can’t figure out how to get them to work.
The 2nd and 3rd places will be judged by the same criteria - but naturally the strength of each of these criteria and the overall level of polish will be taken into account to finalise the standings.
And then we also have 8 specific awards of $3k to give out.
- Technically Impressive
Use our LUA scripting and our range of API's to create a technical package or blueprint that is smooth, bug-free and offers creators amazing new utilities for their games.
- Documentation Award
The package or blueprint that explains how to use it perfectly, even for the earliest of creators. This could be video, detailed forum, code comments, README or however you think is best.
- Best Game Mechanic
We’re looking for the best package or blueprint that introduces an exciting Living City game mechanic that works as the perfect starting point for a creator.
- Aesthetically Pleasing
Create something beautiful. This could be a single environment, or a set of templates to build a variety of environments, spaces or game pieces.
- Most Versatile
Create a package or blueprint that could be used in the largest number of ways - or for the most diverse range of games.
- Best UI Based package
Create a UI package or blueprint that is both visually appealing and has huge benefits for the Creators who would use the package - and for the players who would experience it in the games.
- Custom Effects Award
Use the new customisable fire and steam effects to create versatile and beautiful elements of a Living City.
- Small and Polished
Attention to detail; not overly complicated. Maybe a package or blueprint that just achieves one small thing, but does it really well.
We'll also have up to six $500 runner-up prizes for those honourable mentions that we just have to tell people about. It'll be possible to win more than one of these categories but we'd love to see as much variety as possible – SO GET CREATING!
FAQ
Can I use packages from other creators in my entries?
- Yes, if they are useful for what you are making, but we will take into account how much of it is your own creation
Can I submit multiple entries?
- Of course, but you may be better off spending time to make sure one entry is as useful and perfected as possible!
Can I use any other game engine?
- No. All entries must be built in Crayta.
